I loath the need for a lathe, but it turns out I shouldn’t have let the young lad washing my bike the other day, touch my oil sump bolt when changing my oil as part of the service.

He eagerly set to the job, probably no one else would have trusted him to take such a responsibility, and promptly damaged the sump bolt hole threading through over tightening.

So I took bike to local machine shop, that I might never have found without the aid of my homestay host, where the machinist gave me a mat to lay on, as I got under the bike to empty the oil.

Meanwhile, he got to work on lathing the new bolt

He then enlarged and re-threaded the hole to fit the new brass bolt.
